It’s crazy to think that it’s almost been a year since I decided to have my hair colored. The last time I colored my hair I didn’t choose just one colour, I chose 6. My aim was to create a rainbow balayage effect and have one side warm tones and the other side cool tones. At first I was worried my hair wouldn’t last through another run of bleach/powder lightener through the hair but fear not I was convinced by the professional staff at RAW salon by Anthony Nader that all would be fine. Let’s go back a year and let me take you through my rainbow hair journey.
ON THE DAY
I visited the RAW salon by Anthony Nader at approximately 9am. The salon is located on Commonwealth Street in Surry Hills which is conveniently located near the CBD. I’ve had my hair styled here previously and the name of my colourist and stylist is Brendon (he did an amazing job with the rainbow hair so make sure to ask for him if you’re going there).
RAW salon’s staff service is amazing. They take care of you by offering you a wide range of drinks and constantly check in with you to see if they can do anything to make your experience at their salon as luxe as possible.
The first thing to note is that I had regrowth from the last time I bleached my hair. When I say regrowth it wasn’t just a tiny bit it was a LOT. The problem I had with bleaching hair or coloured light hair is the maintenance level. It is very very high because you have to keep bleaching the roots again and again. I spoke about my concerns to Brendon and we agreed that I should keep my dark roots and add highlights with colour to make it look less “regrowthy”. So that’s exactly where we started, we did the highlights and later followed by overall bleaching of the rest of the hair.
During this process you are also put under a small moving heat machine. This will help speed up the process of the bleaching. This usually takes approximately 1-2 hours and then your hair is washed.
To go to cooler tones you really need light blonde hair, this is why before this I could only do warm tones such as pinks/purples/reds/oranges. Thanks to Brendon lightening my hair I’m now able to have cooler tones such as greens/blues/greys. This time I chose to do all the colours. Pink, red, orange, purple, blue, green, yellow.
To obtain the gradient effect Brendon applied the top layer first and then the middle layer and finally the bottom layer. This is done by hair sections and is quite time consuming but this is the only way for it to be done properly. Once the hair section is done, a plastic wrap is put onto that section so it does not touch or affect the uncoloured hair. This process takes approximately 2-3 hours. The reason it takes this long is because of the separation of each section of hair and the fact that each section must be individually layered and blended by hand.
This is the final look! So what do you all think? Should I do this color again?
