Today I had the pleasure of interviewing Anveglosa‘s creative designer Annette Chan. Anveglosa is a contemporary women’s fashion brand specialising in leatherwear. The brand was created by Annette Chan, a self taught designer and tailor. I’m so excited to meet Annette as she flew all the way from Hong Kong to New York to debut her collection this AW season at New York Fashion Week 2018. Using only the finest leather and silk, Anveglosa sums up a classy and feminine spirit. During my time in New York I had the honour of securing some time backstage to interview Annette about her L’Opera collection. Let’s take a look at what we got up to in those 10 minutes.
1. Tell me a bit about your collection
Annette: The collection is inspired by the theatrical art offering every woman the chance to explore her creativity. The name of the collection is L’Opera and evokes three colors (black, red and white). White represents the ballerinas, red represents the red curtains in the opera and black represents the tuxedos.
2. How did you start designing?
Annette: I am self taught and started in this industry 30 years ago. I started working for other brands at first but later developed my own brand and grew in skills based on my experience.
3. Who is your inspiration?
Annette: I am honestly a believer of everyone having something to offer. Every designer inspires me in different ways and I am able to appreciate the uniqueness they bring to each of their collection.
4. Is this your first time at New York Fashion Week? How do you feel about your experience this season?
Annette: This is my first time doing a show at New York Fashion Week and I am honestly so excited and happy about having the opportunity to be able to share my collection here.
5. What direction do you see yourself going? What’s next?
Annette: Currently I am focused on designing for womenswear and I feel what is next for me will be to expand my collection to incorporate menswear.
That’s all for today with Annette Chan – Creative designer of Anveglosa. I hope you enjoyed the interview and feel free to comment below and let me know your thoughts on the up and coming designer! Special thank you to Hong Kong Trade Development Council for hosting the Fashion Hong Kong runway show and this interview for us.
