Imagine being painted from head to toe in a generous layer of chocolate. The scent of chocolate fills the air and seeps into every pore. You can’t taste it but the room breathes and smells of chocolate. It almost feels wrong that I’m not eating all this chocolate and instead it’s being smeared all over my entire body.
Today I was lucky enough to be the first in Australia to experience the chocolate massage at La Vie Medispa. This is a very popular treatment in Italy but has only recently been introduced to Australia. The process starts off with chocolate being drizzled on your legs and working all the way up to your neck. Once your backside is done it continues to the front side and all the way up to the face. The overall process takes about 1 hour and you take a shower to rinse off all the chocolate. Once you are dry a special chocolate body cream is applied onto you and this can be left on without rinsing off. It was definitely a very unique experience and very very relaxing!
Let’s take a moment to review some Chocolate Massage Benefits
Chocolate is fantastic for both your health and for your skin! It contains potassium zinc, magnesium and iron. It also lowers cholesterol levels and the Vitamin E and B in chocolate are thought to reduce stress levels. Chocolate can also be a mood enhancer as the phenylethylamine in the cacao bean raises serotonin levels (which reduces depression and hunger). It also stimulates endorphins, another feel good hormone.
Chocolate also has a relaxing effect on the blood vessels and improves blood circulation. Chocolate is an anti oxidants and act as a blood thinner as well as stimulating insulin production. Chocolate also nourishes skin from the outside as well as internally.
Chocolate massage couples all the benefits of using chocolate on the skin with other health benefits of massage, such as relaxation, increased blood flow, stimulation of the lymphatic system and digestive system. Using both together increases the effectiveness of the massage, as well as being a luxurious experience.
