First and foremost you need to decide based on your budget – whether size or quality is more important. There will always be a tradeoff between the two. This is super important as it has the biggest effect on the diamond’s sparkle AKA brilliance. Despite choosing an excellent color and clarity, if the workmanship and cut of a diamond are poor, your ring could look dull. Brilliance is the way to go!
Choosing a nice colorless diamond is considered the most highly valued. The less color you see the higher the price.
A diamond that is free from flaws or inclusions are considered the highest value.
Larger diamonds are considered rare and diamond value rises exponentially with carat weight.
