Hanging from a Heli

Here’s a question for you: if you didn’t fly in via helicopter, did you even really visit that city? Today let’s go on an adventure above the skies of Los Angeles – helicopter style. My latest trip to Los Angeles garnered a special visit to Copter Pilot Los Angeles. Copter Pilot Los Angeles is a company that offers a special “doors off” helicopter aerial photography experience and if you’re not afraid of heights I highly recommend you try this experience. This is a great once in a lifetime kind of experience.

We began our journey by meeting at Fullerton Airport. The helicopter fits maximum 3 people (2 at the back, one at the front) plus the pilot and after a short safety briefing you’re ready to embark on a journey through the skies of Los Angeles. Depending on weather, wind and how nice your pilot is you will most likely be able to fly above the key sights of Los Angeles such as the Hollywood sign, Santa Monica, you name it!

Some recommendations for your consideration before you go on a flight like this is to dress cozy, bring a hair tie (it gets windy), try and book a sunset or sunrise time (nothing really quite beats that view) and of course bring a camera or a GoPro for some sick footage! Infact, the pilot will even let you hook your GoPro onto the bottom of the helicopter and trust me, you’ll want that footage!

The ride goes for about an hour but it gets pretty cold up there so wearing something warm is critical. We actually did our flight during a relatively warm time but nevertheless it was still freezing. Lucky for me I sat at the front seat (best seat in the house) so I had a heater to keep me warm. The boys sitting at the back were not so lucky!

Our flight took off just at sunset so we were able to get some amazing video footage. Some notable shots that we were able to capture whilst on our night flight was the infinity roads from above, the Hollywood sign and some pretty city lights. Our pilot was very talented and navigated against the wind for us to get as close to the city as possible so we were able to get some pretty nice content.

Also if you’re sitting in the front like me you’ll have the best view and an amazing experience but make sure you’re not scared of heights because there is NO DOOR next to you ! This is the perfect seat for those who want a nice photo overlooking the city out of a helicopter.  Our pilot was able to keep the helicopter very stable whilst we took our “hanging off the side of a helicopter” shot. This is a must for your instagram (I mean – were you even hanging off a heli if you don’t have pictures on your instagram to prove it? hehe).

So what do you think of this once in a lifetime experience? Are you also a daredevil? Comment below if you’d do this!
